Entrepreneur launches new app and online contest to help local businesses.
During the pandemic, London Ontario businessman Tim Seaton has seen first-hand the need for local business support. So he has founded Yokalize, a local shopping app that helps connect customers with the nearby businesses they love.
To launch the app, Seaton is running the Save Yo’ Locals (www.saveyolocals.com) contest asking Londoners to suggest businesses that should receive a free listing on the app. Contest winners (business nominees and customer nominators) win free Yokalize services and perks on the new app.
“I call it the Local Paradox,” Seaton says, “In a recent study, 62% of small businesses say they may not be able to stay in business if consumer spending doesn’t recover. At the same time, 95% of consumers say they value the small businesses in their communities. If Yokalize can bridge that gap, it’s a win for everybody.”
The contest starts on April 30, 2021 and runs until August 31, 2021. People can nominate a local business by going to www.saveyolocals.com. Seaton started developing the Yokalize app in 2020, funding development and marketing out of his own pocket. Yet he has kept business listings and downloads of the app free for all local independent businesses (free until August 31, 2021 for businesses) and customers. Businesses can also sign on for additional marketing services that include the ability to offer loyalty points, coupons, gift certificates, text messaging to customers, beacons, web marketing services and more.
“I want to get as many locals using the app as possible,” Seaton continues, “When customers can instantly find local businesses and collect points, and businesses can reach out to their loyal network of locals, community support will continue long after the pandemic has ended.”
